I’ve been wanting to write on this subject for some time now even though it’s been written about many times before. They use slick advertising written by experts whose specialty is to separate you from your money (and they are quite good at it too) Almost without exception these are worthless pieces of garbage with no redeeming value to anyone other than the hucksters who get rich selling them.

How to spot the scams:

Orders usually filled via Clickbank

Marketing material claims that you’ll get rich with only a few clicks of your mouse button

Sales page feature a video using a slick salesman who makes outlandish claims

Scarcity tactics are relied upon heavily (only 5 more copies available!!)

Proof of income made using screenshots of a fake Clickbank back office

If you see any of these tactics used to promote a product, run the other way as fast as possible.

Super Affiliates

The 2nd group are “Super Affiliates”. The Super Affiliates have aligned themselves into a cartel (the syndicate) and conspire with each other to raise the prices of training materials to ridiculous levels.  See the video below for a real life example of the syndicates price fixing shenanigans.

The unfortunate thing about the Super Affiliates is that for the most part they have useful information to pass along but they price it out of the reach of many internet marketing hopefuls, usually at least $2000,00. One of the reasons for the hefty pricing structure is the very reason that we aspire to be affiliate marketers… affiliate commissions. The super affiliate product launches normally pay a 50% commission that drives the cost of a $1000 dollar product (still too high) to the $2000 dollar level.

But this is a good thing for the affiliates like you and me, right? Well,  not exactly because the members of the syndicate promote each others products and are able to put together bonuses that while they seem impressive on the surface, are in reality outdated information products that were over-hyped and over-priced to begin with. So this makes it difficult for the average affiliate to compete.

The “Pitchfest”

One of the “benefits” of your $2000 purchase is a “special discount” ticket to attend an event themed around the contents of the course. The event is likely to be held in Las Vegas, San Diego, Miami, or some other exotic locale. The sad thing about the pitchfest is that a fairly large percentage of the “students” who shelled out 2 grand for the course will now spend another $700- $1000 on air fare and a hotel room (not to mention the poor suckers who travel in from overseas.) The attendees arrive at the pitchfest brimming with anticipation about all of the cool secrets they are about to learn only to be subjected to two or three days of non-stop product sales pitches. Products that, you guessed it, are all priced in the $1500 to $2,000 dollar range. To add insult to injury, the pesky super affiliate that suckered you into the original purchase, suckered you into paying another thousand dollars for the privilege of sitting through 3 solid days of sales pitches, is an affiliate for all of the programs being hawked at the pitchfest!

You should never, ever pay $2000 for a product – PERIOD! You shouldn’t pay $1000 dollars for a product, heck you shouldn’t pay $500 dollars, or even $250.00.  There’s simply too much excellent material available for 50 bucks or less as I’ll tell you about shortly. So how do you best deal with the super affiliates? Simple, just unsubscribe from their mailing lists. Believe me, you don’t need these guys.

Journeyman Marketers

So whats an aspiring internet marketer to do? The good news is that there are many extremely knowledgeable internet marketers out there who have not yet reached guru status and who have not succumbed to the lure of easy money. For the sake of our discussion we’ll call this group the “journeyman marketers”. They are the blue collar marketers that make their living from internet marketing and are willing to share their methods for reasonable prices. The journeyman marketers normally price their products in the $50 – $100 dollar range and are well known for passing on some excellent bargains.

One of the most important things you can do when planning your online business is to make certain you choose the very best domain name possible. An example of a domain name that we should all be familiar with is yahoo.com, and that of course will take you to Yahoo’s website. When you decide to build a web page or have a website developed for you it is imperative that you choose a domain name that directly correlates with the specific niche market you will be entering. Choosing the correct domain name can actually mean the difference between the success and failure of you web site, and quite possibly your entire business.

How to Choose Your Domain Name

One of the first things you should know is that there are several top level domain (TLD) extensions to choose from. The conventional wisdom among internet marketing professionals is that .com and .net extensions offer your web site the most credibility, followed by the .org and .info extensions. If none of the preferred TLD extensions are available there are a handful of others such as .us, .me, .co, and .ws, Whenever possible you should choose the .com extension since that is what the vast majority of web surfers enter by default when looking for a particular web site. If for example you own weightloss.net, and a potential customer wants to visit your website, there is a very good chance that they will key in weightloss.com and end up at a competitors website. As a result of this issue one of the most important considerations when choosing a domain name is to get the .com extension if at all possible.

The next thing you have to do is to give serious consideration to the domain name itself. For this example we will be building a site around the widget niche. A domain name similar to “wehavegreatwidgetsatgreatprices.com” is not the best option as it is too long and difficult for potential customers to enter into their browser. But you will find that “lowcostwidgets.com”  is a domain name that has the potential of attracting quite a lot of traffic. A shorter domain such as this is one that most folks will have no problem remembering. This can be one of the biggest reasons for you to try to locate a very short domain name.

Another important thing to do is make sure that the domain name that you choose matches the niche market you are targeting. So if you are planning to enter the widget niche, try to make sure you have the word “widget” within the domain name. Expanding on this idea a little further, another important aspect of your domain name choice should come from keyword research. Use a keyword tool such as Market Samurai to see what terms related to widgets are most often searched for.  If you notice that there are a large number of searches for the phrase “cheap widgets” you will find that domain names such as “cheapwidgets.com, or “buycheapwidgets.com” will tend to rank highly in the search engines and as a result, attract a large number of visitors..

One mistake that many new marketers make is choosing a domain name that sounds “catchy” but doesn’t fit the niche they are in. Once more, if you are targeting the widget niche don’t choose “hiphop.com” just because you think it sounds cool.

I am sure by now you understand how important it is to select the right domain name for your Internet business. The strategies above were developed to help you attract “organic traffic” from the search engines and if you don’t adhere to them you might find that getting top search engine ranking may be extremely difficult.
