I’m sure you’ve all heard it. The SEO gurus, pundits, and forlorn webmasters crying about how the Google Panda update has ruined thier business. Then there was the recent de-listing of the blog networks. Another dagger in the heart of many SEO practitioners.

I think it’s safe to say that Google is on the proverbial warpath, and I think we all know that they are not yet finished with their vendetta against the SEO community. That’s right, I said it, vendetta. Because that’s exactly what it is. But if you really examine the situation closely, it’s clear that what Google is doing is actually good for the internet community at large.

Google is attempting to clean up the cesspool created by the SEO community. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’ve been guilty of falling for the SEO illusion of “free web site traffic”. We’ve all heard it. But in actual fact, the traffic generated by using SEO tactics is far from free,  In most cases that is.

Even in the post-Panda Update environment, links to your website are what drives search engine rank, which results in traffic. Let me qualify that statement, “QUALITY LINKS to your website are what drives search engine rank.

Link building does not come cheaply my friends. You either pay someone else to create links for you, or you pay for links with expensive software and loads of your own valuable time.

I haven’t yet mentioned the scores of junk web sites built with only one purpose in mind, to draw in web site traffic in an attempt to entice people to click on a link or two during their visit. Usually their….. very short visit. I’ve been guilty of that too!

What most members of the SEO community don’t talk about though, is the opportunity for legitimate web masters like you and I, to fill the void left by Google’s purge. Believe me, there are tons of opportunities just waiting to be taken advantage of. All it takes to grab your share is a simple mind shift. A shift away from creating junk web sites that have only one purpose; to put money into your pocket.

The real secret to survival in the post Panda web is to listen to Google’s recurring mantra. Create quality web content! That’s the secret to success on the internet. Create good content that is designed for the people who will read it.

That’s right – PEOPLE.

Flesh and blood human beings. Write decent content for the people, and you will find success. Of course you’re going to need to employ some solid “on-page” SEO techniques, and intelligent marketing of yourself and your web site to hasten the process, but you simply can’t go wrong by creating quality content written for people to enjoy.

Obviously, if you really want your Squidoo Lens to be beneficial, you need to make sure that it contains detailed and value driven content.
