We all know (or should know) that internet traffic is what keeps a blog or website afloat. If you are unable to attract quality targeted internet traffic and keep it flowing in, you aren’t going to generate enough profits to justify all the hard work you’ve put into building your site. If you you break the internet down into its least common denominator, what you have is basically just a revolving door through which constant levels of traffic are generated each second and that amount grows each and every day. Your job as a webmaster is to route your share of that internet traffic through your website while conceiving strategies to generate revenue in the process. Raw traffic is not worth much though without finding ways to monetize it, but that is a subject for another article.
A few Ways to Drive Internet Traffic
There are many more ways to generate internet traffic these days that are ethical and that really work than there were even as few as ten years ago. Here are a few of the methods you can use to grab your share of the traffic pie as soon as possible.
Article Directories
Article directories were a fabulous way to get internet traffic a few years ago, mainly because getting your article ranked by the search engine directories was a relatively straight forward process. But unfortunately, the landscape was now changed dramatically. Google’s Panda Update has hit major directories like EzineArticles.com really hard, so gone are the days when you could submit anything, get ranked and drive traffic. When you dig deeper, though, you’ll see that this is a really good thing because all of the garbage content that has been simply rehashed over and over is being cleaned out and room is being made for high quality content.
So if you want to be able to get traffic from the article directories you need to produce genuinely great article content that, in addition to getting highly ranked, will be picked up and ranked and shared by the ezine publishers.
Squidoo Lenses
Squidoo Lenses are another good way to generate laser targeted internet traffic by getting the lens ranked in the search engines.
Obviously, if you really want your Squidoo Lens to be beneficial, you need to make sure that it contains detailed and value driven content. You can’t just put any old Lens and expect it to make magic happen for you, in fact you have to work just as hard to promote your Lens as you do to promote your website.
Networking
Network with other big name players in your niche. You will find it to be highly beneficial to your business to socialize with people who can help you get more exposure from their web sites. The point here is that once you start to get to know the right people and make the right contacts, you’ll discover new and unique opportunities to drive traffic to your site. There are instances in which the first contact you make introduces you to your next who introduces you to your next and eventually you find the person with the joint venture or project idea that can help you both find boat loads of success. Most new internet marketers will struggle in terms of generating internet traffic and this happens because they seem to believe that there is some sort of secret method for generating traffic but, as you can see, this is not actually true.
Social Media
Sites such as Facebook (with over 700 million active users) and Twitter (200 million users generating 350 million tweets per day, and 1.6 billion search queries per day) allow a website to have a strong social presence that can be easily leveraged as the site becomes known and its popularity increases. It is well known that Google and the other major search engines are paying more attention to “social signals’ when ranking web sites. One easy way to put social media to work for you is to include a Facebook “like” button, and a Twitter “Tweet” button on all of your posts.
If you want to attract lots of targeted traffic to your website, you need to be able to make and follow a system that really works for you and that system will usually involve techniques that take time and honest effort to put in place. But more often then not, the effort is worth it in the end. So if you know how to be patient and consistent, then go ahead and apply what you’ve learned and you’ll see the results for yourself.
